I am a 41 year old overweight female. I have had female problems in the past but no big deal. I have recently been to the urologist and had a staff infection and my bladder had fell slightly but infection is gone and going for a check up this month. I have had 1 stereotactic biopsy and about 4 needle biopsies but all were good reports. My family has a history of cancer. My father had two bouts with bladder cancer and my maternal gradma died from lukemia(sp?) problems @ the age of 80. My mother went throught menopause in her 40's.
I have been under a lot of stress for about 3 years due to family and finacial problems. Have a wonderful marriage we just have had bad luck for the last few years. I am a full time secretary and I commute 1 hour to and from my job. I get home and go to my waitress job which is part time. I am very active in my church and spend the rest of my time there or with my family.
I have been tired a lot and can't sleep and when I do it is restless. I have been experiencing blurred vision and I am near sighted but can't even see up close now. I have to hold all my books out just to read them. I have been also having problems walking once in a while. I will be walking and get off centered. I also have times when my arm will ache bad and then it will go away. I also say the wrong words when I speak which is getting embarassing. I will mean to say "go take the trash out and come back and do your laundry" and I will actually say something like :Take out your clothes and go wash your bed." My family laughs at me but I have noticed it gets worse and when I have to lead my church congregation in singing I constantly double check and still look at a word and say something else. My family MD is getting close to retirement and has cut down on his workload and do you think that all of this is just due to my being overweight. I take pills for my acid reflux

Hi pennygaile,
I would strongly suggest an evaluation by your physician. Generally speaking, TIA's (transient ischemic attack) sometimes referred to as "ministrokes" may cause symptoms of visual disturbances, confusion or difficulty with speech, dizziness or loss of balance and coordination, severe headache, numbness or weakness of the arm and or leg typically on one side of the body. TIA symptoms may disappear in a matter of minutes or be longer lasting but leave no residual side effects as does a CVA (stroke). Experiencing any of the above symptoms warrants an investigation. Regardless of the causative factor of your symptoms I would again, strongly suggest, an evaluation.
Sincerely,
Theresa Jones, RN

Thank you. I guess I will have to bite the financial bullet because if it is something serious then it could cost more if I wait and cost more than money. Should I just go to a MD? Thanks for your reply.

Hi pennygaile,
That would be a good place to start. If a specialist is required then a referral can be made by your primary care physician. If you are uninsured or underinsured here are two links that may provide you with some assistance and I hope you find them helpful. (On the first link under Opportunities click on "find free or low cost health care")
