I am a 52 yr old male recently diagnosed with PADs. I had angioplasty done in both legs (twice on the left) No stents.The last time was on the left leg I now have swelling in my right foot. It is swollen all the time but seems to be worse at night. My level of activity does not seem to make it worse. I also have diabetes and cirrohsis of the liver do to Hep C. Ultrasound on liver done 30 days ago was told everything looks fine
Saw my primary and he seem baffled and put me on a diuretic which does not seem to help.
My question is could this be a complication of PADs or the angioplsty and should I have the Vascular DR lokk at it

 Hello,
Unilateral edema commonly occur due to local causes that interfere with venous drainage, even if there is a a generalized causes for edema, there is usually a localizing factor that makes fluids collect in one part more than the other.
Such causes include causes of venous insufficiency from varicose veins to DVT.
Clinical examination is essential.
And diuretics without identifying the causes is not so advisable by many as it may increase the like hood occurrence of DVT that should be excluded first.
Liver function tests should be done too.
The other cause to be excluded in vasculitis ;when the the blood vessels (arteries, veins and capillaries) become inflamed due to many causes.
I advise you to follow up with your doctor who has done the operation to you (angioplasty) and to discuss with him this information.
