Question: Inappropriate sinus tachycardia, GI problem?

Jeniffer - Thu May 10, 2007 10:36 pm

Hi. I'm 31/f, non-smoker and not overweight. 4 weeks ago I started having heart palpitations that would start for no reason. Went to the ER twice in a week. 1st time my doc sent me because my heart was beating 160bpm. Was told to stop taking celebrex and flexeril that I had just started taking 1 week prior. Then 6 days went by and I was still having the racing and Shortness of breath (all I would have to do is get up and start walking) and then I started getting Chest pains. Went back to ER and they gave me Toprol and follow up with cardiologist. I have a very loud murmer, but Echo shows no prolapse. Stress test was normal (while still on the Toprol). She couldn't give me answers for the rapid heartbeat, said the Chest pains are probably not heart related and to see a gastroenterologist. The Toprol is working good as far as the Tachycardia is concerned, but I'm still getting sharp Chest pains and a lot of pressure. I know I don't have a GI problem. I do not have high BP by the way and I'm not anxious. I'd really like some answers, any ideas? Thanks

If your heart symptoms are now under control I suspect that your Chest pain is not related to the heart. Reflux can very much mimic heart Chest pain so this is always a consideration. I believe that seeing a gastroenterologist may be helpful for you.

Chest pain may also be caused by the lungs as well. If there is some inflammation of the linings of the lungs it can cause significant Chest pain.

Following up with your doctor is important.

Best wishes.
