Hi i have been told i may possibly have Marfan's syndrome. I have heard that it can have an effect on the heart. when i was examined the doctor seemed concerened with my pulse of 155 and it being slightly irregular - and i wasnt overly anxious-anyway he has ordered me an echo. What is he trying to see? I was wondering if it is serious?

User avatar The classic finding of the heart in Marfan's syndrome is dilation of the aortic root. This is when the area where the aorta connects to the heart becomes enlarged. This can increase the risk that the area may rupture causing severe, dangerous bleeding.

With Marfan's syndrome, the aortic root should be monitored periodically.

Best wishes.
