Post subject: Side effects of Levaquin please help.
alwaysscared - Tue Feb 08, 2005 7:49 pm |
Yesterday (2-7-05) I went to the ER because my hands were numb and I could not stop trembling. Earlier in the morning when it started I thought I was just having a panic attack, because lately I seem to get about 2 a month. But I never had the trembles like that for a few hours or numbness in my hands. I always have rapid heartbeat and pain in my arm that goes away usually within 30 minutes. EKG was ok, my heartbeat was a little high aruond 100. Turns out is was a panic attack...I think. They are still waiting on my thyroid test to come back. They did a CBC blood test which did come back OK, no infections or anything else abnormal. I was prescribed 0.5 mg of xanax. I had an appointment with my regular physican that afternoon anyway because I had a sinus infection that would not completely go away. So when I went to that appointment I was prescribed levaquin 500mg. Amazingly the xanax worked and I felt fine this morning. I was told I could take them when needed and did not have to take them daily. I started the levaquin this morning and after reading about it online, I completely put myself into another panic attack and had to take a xanax. Is levaquin really safe to take? I've heard of all these horror stories from people who take them. I'm a 28 year old female I've never had an allergic reaction to any medicine before, (lets pray not now) I've been keeping my water bottle by me all day, trying to flush this drug out of me.
How long would it take to see an allergic reaction from this? An hour? 10 hours? 24 hours? I'm on 4 hours since I took it.
Are my odds less of a side effect because I only took one?
Why would I get this antibiotic if my CBC showed no infections?
Was my hear rate up because of the panic attack?
Also, since I'm prone to panic, if anyone knows how to tell a normal ache and pain to something serious, even if its just an opinion I'd appreciate it. I think that sometimes I suffer for no reason, because I focus too much on small things.

Dear Alwaysscared,
Any medication has potential side effects that occur in only a portion of the patients who take this medication and levaquin is not different.
There is no need to fear the side effect as long as it is recognized early on and the medication stopped.
i am not sure what are the horror stories that you read about levaquin online but i have seen way too many people take it with no side effects whatsoever. You have to take a look at both faces of the coin not just one.
Most probably you have a chronic sinus infection and with chronic infections, the white count does not have to be high.
Panic attacks causes increase in the heart rate.
Pain is a totally subjective sensation. i don't think that there is a way to tell if the pain that any patient is suffering from is actually there or not (meaning that there is no objective way to determine whether or not pain is present and hence it can not be quantified).
When assessing a patient, all of the symptoms that the patient suffers from are taken into consideration including the pain if present.
If you think you have a problem in regards to pain, you have to talk to your doctor about that and let him/her decide what is this pain related to and whether or not it has a serious cause and how to treat it.
i think the only way to differentiate between serious pain and non-serious pain is to be evaluated by a health care provider.
Thank you very much for using our website http://www.doctorslounge.com and i hope that this information helped.
