Question: Strong pulsating sensation in stomach

 katdarby - Sun Jun 12, 2005 8:32 pm

I am a 23 year old female, about 5 foot 3 inches tall and weigh about 107 pounds. Recently I have noticed that when I lie on my stomach or back I can feel my pulse beating strongly in my stomach. when on my back I can actually see my stomach pulsating. This is a bit alarming. Is this normal or should I be concerned?
Thank you for any help you can give me.

User avatar Hi katdarby,
People that are rather thin may sometimes notice pulsations in their abdomen. However, this would warrant an evaluation along with diagnostic studies to rule out any anomalies such as an abdominal aneurysm (a weakening in the aorta/ large vessel of the abdomen)
I would very strongly suggest an evaluation.
