I'm 43 year-old and exercise regularly. It has been 4 years that I participate to mountain bike competions (long rides of more than 100Km). In the last 4 years I experienced palpitations during training once in a while (probably once in every 6 months). However lately I had 4 episodes of palpitations during bike rides. During these episodes I feel like my heart is racing, no other symptoms. My heart monitor read 200bpm. When I stop heart beats will go around 140 and after 3-5 minutes sudenly drop to 100. These palpitations are annoying and interfere with my trainning since I now paid to much attention to them.
I have no heart disease and none in my family, my cholecterol is normal. ECG during exercise is normal and cardioechography showed everything is normal.
My resting heart rate is between 55-60. Lately (the last three months) I incresed my trainning sessions to 9-10 hours/week and train at the intensity of 145-165 bpm 25% of the time. No symptoms everything is perfect.
Can these palpitations be caused by overtraining?
I also take symbicort for animal allergy (ashma), I know it can increase heart-rate but I have not notice it at rest.
Is there anything to to prevent these palpitations and what should I do when I have them?

Did the cardiologist mention trying an event monitor? That could capture the run of tachycardia/palpitations, since it didn't happen on your stress/echo.
If you are not experiencing any increased shortness of breath or dizziness, it is probably benign.
You can possibly reduce them by eliminating caffeine and alcohol altogether if you haven't. Plenty of sleep (8-9 hours) is very important.
You may be overtraining or training with too little carbohydrate intake.
These are some possibilities I can think of.
