I'm a male 35 years of age complaining of chest tightness and finger numbness. I quit smoking about three year ago as well. I'll get tightness in my chest, and some associated pains in my left side. They don't usually last long, maybe a few minutes. They sometimes will not return for weeks or months at a time. I noticed that the finger numbness occurs more frequently while sitting at my desk typing. I also have some back and neck fatigue. Could these pains be associated with poor posture or workplace ergonamics?

Dear Poohpotta,
To decide whether or not chest pain is due to coronary disease, major risk factors for coronary disease and characteristics of the chest pain are evaluated and the probability of the pain be due to coronary disease are then assessed.
Looks like you don't have any major risk factor for coronary disease except for smoking (and you stopped but the effect on the arteries linger for a long time though). The characteristics of the pain sound atypical.
i think that you have a neck problem as well which is not common in persons who are sitting on the computer all day long and the majority of them usual sit in an unhealthy fashion.
i recommend that you have a neck x-ray to evaluate your neck spine in addition to informing your physician about the chest pain. We are not in a position to rule out any cardiac cause, this is for your physician to decide.
Thank you very much for using our website http://doctorslounge.com and i hope that this information helped.
