Mechanism of action of Vistaril

Competitively blocks the effects of histamine at peripheral H1 receptor sites; has skeletal muscle relaxing, bronchodilator, antiemetic and analgesic properties.

Indications of Vistaril

1. Treatment of anxiety, preoperative sedative, antipruritic

Contraindications of Vistaril

1. Allergy to any antihistamines

Adverse effects of Vistaril

• CNS: Headache, nervousness, dizziness, tremor, seizure
• GI: Xerostomia
• Respiratory: Thickening of bronchial secretions
• General: Weight gain
• Other: blurred vision
