A small patch of skin on the shaft of my penis just under the head is real red and irritated. It hurts sometimes when I'm just walking around, I think it must rub against my boxer shorts. Just when it seems that the redness and irritation are going down, the next morning it is back. This is really starting to annoy me, what can I do to finally get rid of this?

Hello,
Friction and fungus are the two main causes of these symptoms.
Skin rubbing against skin generates heat and sweat, they in turn lead to , redness and , painful itchy patches.
Obese and active people are more susceptible.
The itch may progress into inflammation and becomes more complicated.
If caused by fungus, the itch and redness will be more gradually. In such cases, the patches of scaly skin will have defined, ring-like borders—hence the medical name Tinea cruris, or ringworm of the groin.
Fungus-caused jock itch predominates in the summer.
Severe itching, as well as pain, can precede the outbreak of
herpes blisters.
Direct clinical examination is essential.
