an old lady of the age of 80 female, with no past medical problems and no past surgieries and family history has no diseases and who is now on medication for urinal control. now has what seems to be excess water in skin , a swollen leg and on her right thigh a large area which is dark purple and seems to be spreading onto other leg, she has being in bed for the last 6 months with hardly any movement, she also seems to have ulcers on her bum. please help. thanks

Hello,
Sorry for the delay in response.
To start with, I would advise a Doppler US on both lower limbs.
Being recumbent in bed for long time, may predispose to DVT which give a very similar picture to what you have described. The condition needs urgent management with anticoagulants.
This ulcer is known as pressure ulcer(decubitus ulcer), individuals who cant move from bed for long time , need special care for their skin and to change posture from time to time and to use special types of matrix to avoid these complications.
Surgical Consultation is essential.
