Question: red bump became purple discoloration on toe

 tiredmom - Mon Feb 13, 2006 4:43 pm

16 yr old daughter has had continual med. problems. I am unsure which of her Drs to even take her to. She has a rhuematologist for possible lupus, althought they don't think so, potentially fibromyalgia..well it's complicated. She has a Neurologist for seizures and constant migraines.

She started out having a slight reddish discoloration near index toe on foot, became swollen, now is purple and more spots on her foot...says it down't itch.

Thanks for input!!

User avatar Hello,

These lesions are more likely to be related to vascular problem.
Poor circulation in the fingers and toes are common in individuals with Lupus as well as many other diseases.

Skin Rash and vasculitis cold be also lupus related.
Redness is always a sign of inflammation while blue skin (sometimes purple) is indication of poor circulation.

Certain drugs may also cause similar changes and a careful history is very important in these cases.

These color changes should be taken seriously and clinical examination is very essential to evaluate the peripheral circulation.
