Question: Accutane Hair Loss

Hello
I'm a 21 year old male. I was on accutane for about 5 months, and did not notice any hair loss during that time. It wasn't until about 2 months after I stopped that I notice that my hair was falling out a lot more than usual.
The hair loss doesn't seem to be effecting my hair line and the hair loss is occuring all over my head and not in any specific area. I was told that it was probably telogen effluvium.
Is there any way of knowing if I do indeed have telogen effluvium and how long does it usually take the hair to grow back.
Lastly, is there anything I can do to quicken the process?

User avatar Hi lazerking,
One of the possible side effects of Accutane is hair thinning during or after treatment. Telogen Effluvium Can actually only be accurately diagnosed by a Dermatologist. This condition presents itself typically after a traumatic systemic event (which may include certain medications) and may take several months for hair to grow back in. An evaluation by a Dermatologist would identify if the causative factor is this disorder or something else entirely.
Sincerely,
Theresa Jones, RN
