Question: Dry Lip?

totallylost - Fri Feb 02, 2007 1:20 am

For over a year now I have been battling what seems to be dry lip. I say lip because it is only on my lower lip. The skin simply seems to dry up and flake off, I can actually peel it off in what seems like sheets (pieces about the size of the head on a pencil eraser), and I can do this 2 or 3 times a day.. I have seen my doctor and dermatologist. I have tried chapstick, drinking tons of water, lip moisturizer, I have even tried taking vitamin e vitamins, and go so far as to buy vitamin E capsules and crack them open and use the liquid as a chapstick on my lips. None of this has worked. Any one out there have any suggestions?

Hi totallylost,
Since this is such a longstanding problem and doesn't appear to be influenced by weather changes, have you been evaluated for a vitamin deficiency (specifically Vitamin B) ? If not that would be a topic of inquiry between you and your physician that I would certainly suggest. Best wishes.
Sincerely,
Theresa Jones, RN

Hi Theresa,
Thank you for the response. I have not been tested for any deficiencies. I eat very healthy and exercise regularly. I just read that tuna, potatoes, bananas, and turkey are all good sources of Vitamin B. I do eat those foods occasionally, I will try eating more of them. Do you have any recommendations?
