Question: Unexplained Red Scratches

Tigermom - Sat Feb 03, 2007 3:53 pm

I'm a 50 yr old female who has allergies (tested pos for grasses; mold; etc) and folliculitus. Have also had problems with boils and hives

Suffer from chronic Depression, Anxiety & agorophobia so I'm o Effexor XL; Lexapro and Neurontin (recently they substituted Gabapentin for the Neurontin)

Have High Blood pressure and take Atenolol; HCTZ and Lisinipril for it

The Gabapentin is the only chg in my meds recently except I ran out of Lexapro about a week ago and haven't had money to replace it. Just had to stop it abruptly when I ran out.

Those are the only chgs I've had in meds for at least 2 years

Have had uterine ablation in 04 so do not bleed during periods now but PMS symptoms have really worsened with extreme stomach pain and Nausea and mood swings

Have always had severe PMS problems anyway but now the stomach pain and Nausea are even worse

Had gallbaldder out in 94 so it's not that. Have gum problems and have lost teeth plus I'm overweight

Lately, stomach has been bloating a LOT right after eating or drinking anything even water. Have developed severe GERD and woke up choking twice in recent weeks during night

Wednesday afternoon, my stomach was bloated badly and I felt a really sore spot on upper left side of it right under breastbone but hadn't hit it. No bruise etc.

Within about 1/2 hr there were LOTS of different sizes (most are LONG) red scratches cropped up around that area then as evening went on, they showed up under breasts and expanded to right side and middle of abdomen as well. All of them ran horizontally and then as evening went on, a few showed up running vertically down to lower abdomen on left side

They look like something spreading under my skin, BUT they feel like they're made on outside and they are VERY sore!

Yesterday, developed 3 in same place on upper left thigh

I don't have long fingernails so not doing it myself either awake or sleeping, but they showed up WHILE I was awake anyway, just suddenly the other day

There's 3 folliculitus sores on my abdomen near the scratches and they're very sore but I've NEVER had anything like these scratches although I've had follicultus many years

They are so wierd and scary. Plus they HURT. They feel rough on outside but they HAVE to be from something inside 'cause they just popped up as fast as hives

I didn't eat anything out of the ordinary that day. Oatmeal for breakfast (which has never bothered me).

Microwave frozen dinner (turkey medallions, mashed potatoes and green beans/carrots in a ginger sauce - didn't care for taste of the vegs/sauce so just tasted those and didn't eat) for lunch

They popped out BEFORE I ate dinner so that's moot

I hope you can shed some light on these. They're STILL there and it's Saturday. No new ones on abdomen, just the ones on thigh. Still very SORE and rough like something's scratched me up with claws on outside.

Please help me. They're hurting and it's so wierd. Cannot figure out why all of a sudden I have developed these things!

Thanks for your time and help.

so I hope that a dr or med professional will at least look at this topic and see if they even have a VAGUE idea what these could be...could they be a type of hives?

I'm not delusional lol and I'm not making them up

they're very real and VERY sore!

so I'm hoping a dr or someone will at least take time to read and offer any thoughts they may have

perhaps I AM scratching myself in my sleep although I don't have long nails, I DO chew them and have rough edges on cuticles so perhaps I AM doing it and not aware of it...have you ever heard of THAT before at least?
