Question: Red bumps after shaving, not razor burn

tiredofbumps - Mon Feb 19, 2007 3:18 am

I am a 25 y/o female. With this issue the doctor looked at it and said "it might be folliculitis", she didnt seem confident and worried me. Past surgeries-I have had a D&C and 2 c-sections. Also had my tonsils removed. Right now I am taking Labetalol(100MG tabs-once a day) for high blood pressure and a keflex substitue for folliculitis(500mg capsule every 6 hrs).

Ok, now my issue. I had bought new razor blades for my razor and after shaving I had red bumps on my legs. I blew it off as razor burn since I get it alot, but then the bumps started showing up more, and now they are spreading bad. The bumps are red, there has never been any type of head on the bumps. Meaning they don't look like pimples or like they're filled with puss. And now the center of them seem to be dried out. Some of them Itch but not all. They have gone from where I shaved to just about everywhere on me except my face(so far). I don't know if the E. R. doc was right. I just need a second opinion.

Hi tiredofbumps,
You stated that the areas Itch and aren't on your face but what about your hands? If the areas were in a shaving region only then it may be related to folliculitis, I. e, Barber's Itch/Pseudofolliculitis. However, since you state the areas are elsewhere are they scabbed over and running in a tract or line appearance? If this is the case a condition such as scabies may be a consideration. I would strongly recommend that you have an evaluation by a dermatologist to identify the causative factor.
Best wishes.
Sincerely,
Theresa Jones, RN

Yes, some Itch, not much. they are all over my hands, but I shaved my hands. I shave just about everywhere. They arent scabbed over, they're just reallllly dried out, which makes it kind of feel like a scab(some of them) but they arent running in a tract or line at all. They are random all over. I will definetly go to a doc again, a. s. a. p.
Thank you very much.
