I've recently been having this problem for about almost 2 months now. My skin itches like crazy and the weird thing is there is absolutely no indication of insect bites or anything. My skin just looks normal. It doesn't itch like a mosquito bite--it itches like a sharp sewing needle is constantly poking me and when I rub on it with my palm, it goes away but 2-3 seconds later it comes back again and again. It itches on my leg, thighs, back, forearm, and especially the back of my head. It lasts for a couple of hours sometimes the whole day.
It sort of feels like I have a rash inside my skin and it itches, but I can't see it. I also want to point out that when I put my palm over the itchy area and let it sit for about 3 minutes, that area doesn't itch anymore but comes back after sometime. I know that it's not the soap that I use because I've been using it for years with no problem. I drink lots of water everyday(about 10 glasses a day) and exercise twice a week for about 2 hours and I sweat A LOT. After taking a shower, it comes back.
I don't know what's going on with my body but it's driving me crazy. I can't go to the doctors because I don't have medical insurance or anything that relates to medical stuff. I'm 21 years old, male, and in college. I am on no medication, please help me. I thank you for your time.

Hi Cy Young,
In some people there is an increased amount of histamine, the compound that is responsible for the itching with allergic reactions, naturally in the body.
You may want to try taking a dose of benadryl to see if the itching goes away. If it does, you can use an allergy medicine that is not as sedating on a regular basis.
If the itching does not improve with this I would suggest you see a doctor for an evaluation. Your college may have a student health clinic that can see students free or for a reduced fee. There are also often clinics in town that can see patients without insurance for a free or reduced fee based on income. Your local health department can help locate these for you.
Best wishes.

I have been suffering from a similar condition for two weeks. Started on legs then got worse. Itching can be on back of head for 10 minutes, then jumps to leg and arm, then jumps to feet and back, etc. Location seems to move about every 10 to 15 minutes. As with you, no redness, swelling or bumps. Nothing visual.
I work in heat, often in mold/mildew infested areas. A co-worker reports same symptoms, same start date as I, after we working in a particularly hot damp and small building. His Dr. suggested antihistamine after skin tests found nothing. Antihistamine relieves itching temporarily but symptoms return within several hours.
55 yr. old male, taking 1 blood pressure med. only, 6'3", 215 lbs., very physically active, daily baskeball, etc. No surgeries, in-depth annual physical several months ago was normal.
