I'm not sure how long this has been going on but I remember when it first happened my arms were covered in huge patches of itchy skin. Now, every winter when I wear long sleeves I get these little, white, circular, itchy places all up and down my arms. Lotion doesn't help though it feels like dry skin. The only thing that helps is not wearing sleeves and that is kind of impossible when it gets really cold outside. Please help me understand this wierd skin condition.

Hello,Nummular dermatitis are the coin shaped dry, itchy patches of dermatitis probably relatedto an atopic tendency.Atopy indicates an allergic tendency inherited in the family.A patch test done in such patients with nummular dermatitis show sensitization to nickel and chromium.Winter would predispose due to dryness produced. Moisturizing cremes help to combat dryness.Topical steroids like hydrocorisone relieve the itching and dermatitis. Do consult your doctor for therapy. Bestwishes.
