Question: Rashes in Flexion areas: Neck, Arm and Legs

 ptrk333 - Wed Aug 04, 2010 11:11 am

My 10 year old sister has had multiple dry skin rashes on her Flexion areas since she was 6. We've been to doctors and they recomended Hidrocortisone cream. She's been using it for over a year and the rashes are simply not improving. In fact they look worse.

Here's a pic of the Neck area:

I'm not sure if this is Eczema or not, does anyone know?

User avatar Hello,AD ie Atopic Dermatitis is a chronic relapsing dermatosis starting in childhood.Usually there is a family history of asthma or eczema in the family. This condition starts in early childhood in most cases. The cheek is the first place to start though not in all.The localization would be to flexor surfaces as the child grows older.
In many cases of AD dry skin also known as xerosis accompanies.Sometimes external steroids may not be effective here. The best course would be to use emollients to hydrate the skin.White soft paraffin, glycerine as applications would be most useful in recovery.Do consult your doctor for starting the treatments.
Best wishes.
