Question: bumps on skin

 flemi007 - Sun Jun 19, 2005 2:43 am Bookmark and Share

I have these little bumps that sometimes come up at the base of my skull. They usually come up if my head gets hot or if i let my hair air dry! They become crusty and will itch for a few days and then go away! I know I should probably see a doctor and plan to in the near future but was wandering if you could possible tell me what you think they could be and is there any possiblity they are signs of skin cancer!
Thanks so much!

If they sometimes disappear on their own, but are recurrent, they are obviously not cancerous. A condition called folliculitis can affect the scalp as well as the skin of the trunk and extremities. In dark-skinned persons, it most commonly affects the scalp. It is usually caused by a pathogen known as Staphylococcus aureus.

Diagnosis can only be made by examination, therefore you should see a dermatologist for confirmation.
