Question: What may be the cause for Acne

I have never experienced a bad acne condition. I have had pimples through my teen ages. I am 30+ now and occasionally experiencing larger pimples in my neck. With the first one i noticed, i visited a dermatologist and told me it was acne and gave me benzac since it was only one. Then i got one or two more a few years later. Is there anything causing acne at this stage of my life. I excercise a lot and sometimes take supplements like Amino Acids,Proteins and Vitamins. Does it affect somehow towards this problem?

Hello mitocondria,

aside from hormones causing acne, another factor(s) can be infection (trauma via scratching the skin affected or poor personal hygiene) or diet (eating oily/ deep fried foods, etc)

as for the culprit microorganism involved if we are talking of acne vulgaris, it is the Propione bacteria that causes your pimples. However, from what you have posted, have you noticed whether these pimples appear within the same area as your hair follicles or not? do these lesions have pus inside (yellowish discharge)? or is it just a reddish lesion like a typical rash?

I am asking these questions because the modality of treating these lesions are somehow different. Using a broad spectrum antibiotic might only do more harm than good.

As for your daily activities, there is no problem with what you are currently doing. good personal hygiene is a must ofcourse.

Thanks for your response; I have noticed that these pimples are affecting my neck area, and yes, most of them are where my hair follicles. Also, they have the yellowish discharge. My diet is somehow fine since my excercise routines demands it, as well as my hygene. I wash my face 2 times a day and am applying Benzac in the affected area, sometimes has helped. I suspected of some supplements like Amino Acids, Vitamins and Minerals i intake during my excercise. I have noticed also that my skin gets oilier when i wash my face more often thus suspecting of more pimples. My case seems normal but considering they appear seldomly i suspect of doing things that provoke them.
