My brother has ALS and is on a clinical trial with primaxin. He also takes 4800 mg of creatine daily. He was just told to stop the primaxin due to possible kidney failure. Is this a possibility?

I take 5 grams of creatine a day. This is OK so long as I drink enough water. I drink about 4 liters a day. If I didn't I would probably give myself a kidney stone. I've had friends not drink enough water and get kidney stones...
What's the purpose of taking creatine?
