Question: Generic liothyronine or Cytomel?

User avatar Is there any actual advantage in taking Cytomel over generic liothyronine?

User avatar Hi jellyfishattack,
To my knowledge the structural and empirical formula is the same. One is the brand name of the medication and the other is the generic. Unless the prescription stated brand necessary you should be able to use either unless advised otherwise by your physician.
Sincerely,
Theresa Jones, RN
