Question: Alcohol absorption/processing during a thyroid storm

GAV - Mon Oct 05, 2009 7:34 pm Bookmark and Share

I need information regarding a blood alcohol test taken during a thyroid storm. Could a thyroid storm impact blood alcohol level? Do thyroid hormones have any impact on liver function or breakdown of alcohol? Any information related to this would be very helpful.

User avatar Hi,
A review of available literature shows that there are more studies on the effect of alcohol on thyroid physiology than the effect of thyroxin on blood alcohol levels (metabolism of alcohol). Most studies which pertain to your query are unfortunately experimental. Not able to help you there....sorry!!Good luck!!

Thank you very much for your reply. I am curious about the experimental studies- can you direct me toward any of this information?

User avatar Hi,
I need some time! Many of these studies are meant for access by members of the medical profession and thus, can't be put out on the net for public consumption.I will need some time to search for some article which i can share with you. Thank you for your post.
