Question: sickness and sperm quality

 erik osborn - Wed Feb 27, 2008 4:28 pm

My husband has been sick for 13 days now with flu/cold. We are trying this month
to conceive a child. Will his sickness effect the health quality of his sperm? Potentially have any negative effect on any offspring because of his sickness

User avatar Hello,
I would not expect any adverse affects from this illness. People deal with illnesses all the time and yet, we continue to reproduce and while there is a small percentage of birth defects, we have not seen an increase relating to the father having had a routine viral or even bacterial illness. It should not affect his sperm count, unless only temporarily.

Good luck.
