Post subject: "isolated" chills
dfmastin - Tue Dec 28, 2004 1:57 am |
I have experienced sudden onset of chills about once every several months for the last five years. My wife and I refer to it as my spells of "temperature deregulation". I feel as if I may be coming down with the flu for ten minutes (I feel a bit achy and under the weather) and then I experience racking chills for about twenty minutes. I immediately jump into a hot bath and so I'm not sure how long they would persist under other conditions. I feel somewhat nauseas as I'm experiencing these chills, but have never vomited and have no other symptoms (no focus problems, or cognitive changes). Blood dramatically drains from my hands and feet and my shaking is pretty severe. Afterwards, I may feel a bit hot and usually go to bed as I'm a bit exhausted after the chills, but otherwise I feel okay. These episodes of "dysautonomia" have always occurred in the evening and as far as I can remember, in the winter, but I never am particularly cold before onset of these chills. Also, as I've not had very many, the time of day or season consistency may be a statistical fluke. Only five to eight total episodes and I took notes the last two times as to what I'd eaten or been doing, but haven't generated interesting clues. I don't believe I have any other unusual autonomic symptoms. I'm wondering if anyone has any leads or ideas as to causes of "isolated chills"?

Hi!
Sorry for the late response. Have you had your thyroid tested?
