MY WIFE THOUGHT THE SWEATING MAY BE DUE TO LOW BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS, BUT SHE WAKES ME UP AND WE TEST SUGAR LEVELS AND THEY ARE ALWAYS IN THE 100 TO 140 RANGE WHICH I HAVE BEEN TOLD IS GOOD. PLEASE HELP. icon_confused.gif

Hi!

What is your doctor's opinion as to what the reason is behind your oral thrush? Have you had a fasting blood glucose tested? Does your doctor think you have less than normal immunity? Have you got your sputum examined for TB? Do you or your wife have cough that has lasted more than 3 weeks? Nightsweats are associated with a TB. Have you had a rectal examination done?

I think these would be some of the questions I would explore for you.

Warm regards,

Bill

yes i was tested for fasting blood glucose tolerance test. and they have tested my fecal matter and there was some flora and fauna in it, but when retested later the flora and fauna had disappeared because my wife put me on a diet free of yeast and sugar and this cleared up this problem of the flora/flauna in bowels they have never tested my sputum. an no one has had a cough for 3 weeks or more. also they sent me to a infectious disease center as to the concern of oral thrush and she could find no reason to this. have had hiv test 2 times and was a negative....this was both doctors concern. any other suggestions.

Hi!

What is your doctor's opinion as to your rectal incontinence [stool staining of undergarment]?

I don't see why the flora and fauna of the intestine should cause your rectal incontinence. Intestinal flora are part of the intestinal microbes in all of us, and are in fact helpful in our digestion, and absorption of certain vitamins.

Perhaps you have not had a complete understanding of what your doctor explained, or perhaps I am unaware of the possibilities. In any case, it would be a fine idea to consult the doctor again and find out what exactly caused the rectal incontinence. Was a digital rectal examination done for you? (using the finger to examine your anal orifice).

yes it was a digital rectal examination and a collection of the next days fecas sent to lab and they said there was an overabundance of flora and fauna..and then a recheck of fecal matter several weeks later with an appropriate amount of flora and fauna.after i went on the yeast free sugar diet..and yes i understand we all have yeast in our bodies and some are very beneficial to us. but back to my original message.i will request those additional test you suggested on friday..but do you know of any diseases or disorders that have the symptoms of excessive sweating...and i mean excessive as to a gallon of water and also with the oral thrush combined. or would you percieve these symptoms belonging to two seperate diseases or disorders?

Hi!

When you mentioned oral thrush, have you come to know the name of the micro-organism causing the problem?

If the problem is due to the fungus Candida albicans, the term thrush is used. The causes of this include immune dysfunction, polyendocrine disorders, and drugs like steroids or antibiotics used long-term.

Night sweats can occur with various infections including tuberculosis, brucellosis, blastomycosis, coccidioidomycosis, histoplasmosis, and HIV infections. Cancer sometimes causes night sweats, like chronic lymphocytic leukemia, Hodgkin lymphoma, and rarely benign right-sided heart tumors. Cholangitis or inflammation of the bile ducts can cause night sweats, but what was the reason you had your gall bladder surgery for?

Stool seepage that produces soilage of undergarments may result from hemorrhoids, enlarged skin tags, poor hygiene, fistula-in-ano, and rectal mucosal prolapse. Other conditions that result in poor bowel control are inflammatory bowel disease, laxative abuse, parasitic infection, and toxins. Anal fissures can be seen in patients with syphilis and other sexually transmitted diseases, tuberculosis, leukemia, inflammatory bowel disease, HIV, and other conditions or diseases. Approximately 30% of patients with HIV develop anorectal abscesses and fistulas.

People with AIDS develop many diseases and “opportunistic” infections (such as pneumonia, tuberculosis, cancer, and skin infections). Since you have already been tested for HIV twice, the probability decreases. BUT, there is a pitfall in the routine tests used for HIV in that it doesn't take into consideration the window period during which a patient with HIV infection can go undetected. There are more accurate tests like viral load test used in directing antiviral therapy to patients. But such tests need the doctor's specific instruction to get done.

While people with leukemias can have both night sweats and anal fistulas, these blood cancers can also have its decremental effect on the immunity to bring about thrush.

All in all, I will tend to look into your blood counts to rule out any leukemias, while excluding infectious causes (including STD by way of a VDRL test) that could have been the reason why your spouse 'caught' the cough and nightsweats, not forgetting HIV from the background.

I hope this helps. Please do not hesitate to clear any more doubts you might have.

Warm regards,

Bill

Hi!

Polyendocrine dysfunction is nothing but the dysfunction of more than one of our endocrine glands, namely the pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, pancreas, adrenal, gonads, placenta, etc.

For a brief description of Brucellosis, please visit our article by clicking on the link below:

Blastomycosis, Coccidioidomycosis, and histoplasmosis are various fungal infections which can be searched on any search engine, like google, for further information.

As for suggesting a list of tests, I have already mentioned how I would go about it. You may please take the leads and discuss with your doctor regarding the issues. I will not be in a position to suggest to your doctor any particular direction, since your doctor will know better regarding your symptomatology. I am sure your doctor would also want to help you and would go thoroughly into your problems.

Warm regards,

Bill

Hi!

High cholesterol can be the cause for cholesterol stones in the gall bladder, which in turn could lead to cholangitis, a symptom of which being night sweats. Far-fetched as it is, that is the one possibility presenting to my mind right now. But that would require that your wife has not had a gall bladder removal surgery yet!

Thank you for your feedbacks, as it helps us too in interactive learning.

Warm regards,

Bill
