antidepressents changing your personality

Postby zionzion » Tue Dec 23, 2008 1:23 pm

im on citalopram for social anxiety and mild depression. 29 yrs old.

there's been a big change in me. a positive change. i never quite realised how much til so many ppl let me know. none of them know im on this medication or my problems, as i mask it quite well.

my question is, are these changes in me my true personality? or something similar to what alcohol does?

Hello,
Chances are this is your true personality coming through since depression and anxiety can have such a powerful negative effect on your behavior, mood, even ability to concentrate and feel joy. When the neurotransmitters are not in balance in the brain, you just can't be your best self, so getting this in control can allow you to be you.

Congratulations on getting a handle on what can be a debilitating challenge.

Best wishes for future happiness.
