All lymph nodes swollen and right side headache for 2 weeks

Postby Hellothere » Sun Nov 09, 2008 12:53 pm

Suddenly one evening all lymph nodes started to swell along with severe headache on right side temple. 2 days later went to clinic who suggested sinus infection, yet no feelings/signs of drainage or congestion. Took Musenex D and Tylenol, yet the headache pain persisted for 4 days. Went to work after that and primary care doc took head xray and indicated no bleeding (am on Coumadin). Following weekend ended in e room due to intense headache which Delantin (?) helped but pain persisted once returning home. Yesterday finally had a good day for 10 hours then the pain returned in the same area. Lymph nodes still swollen. (For several days, my throat in the larnyx/thyroid area was numb and limited taste sensations.) Today, after 2 weeks + the pain in head started back but now after Tylenol has subsided. Am worried about the pain as it hurts, but am more concerned about the cause and the lymph glands. By the way, they have been swollen but not lumpy. Blood tests initially showed elevated white count, but last week all tests normal/negative. Thanks.

Hello,
Sorry for the delay in replying and hope you are better now.

It would be more helpful if you can inform us about the site of these enlarged lymph nodes, their size and any associated symptoms like being painful, tender, or hot. It would be more helpful also if you can inform us about the current status of the thyroid functions and if you can give more details about the previous history of melanoma.

They could be reactionary lymph node to infection in the throat, sinuses and the upper respiratory tract. These enlarged nodes are painful, mobile, and soft to firm; they then regress in size once infection is controlled but remain palpable but less than 1 cm.

Increase in the leucocytes count may occur during infections as part of the body defense mechanism and the differential count is helpful.
Lymph nodes that do not regress but increase on serial clinical examination are alarming and should be investigated properly. Biopsy may be done if the node is considerably large, hard, fixed or in constant growth.

Sinusitis causes sever headache that is mainly occur early in the morning and subsides during the day. But it is very important that your doctor excluded brain hemorrhage since you are on anticoagulant therapy.

I would be also helpful to check the ESR, LDH levels and do consider doing MRI is symptoms persist.

Follow up with your doctor is essential, update him with your symptoms and discuss with him your concerns.
Please keep us updated.
Best regards.
