Exercise during recovery from Lisfranc injury

Postby Elmo12 » Fri Aug 06, 2010 11:41 pm

I suffered 2 broken metatarsals and a Lisfranc injury approximately 4 weeks ago. I underwent surgery 2 weeks ago to repair my foot with 3 screws, a plate, and an external pin and am now in a short leg cast. What kind of exercise can I safely do while in a non-weight-bearing cast? Can I use the stationary bike? What about lifting light weight using the leg extension machine or hamstring curl machine at the gym?

Stay off the machines at the gym. Instead do leg lifts (abduction, adduction, flexion and extension) with cuff weights around the ankle if the cast fails to provide enough weight.
10 reps of each direction for multiple sets daily.

For cardio, do UE ergometer (Upper arm cycling machine).

Take care.
