bruise around spine

Postby chovie » Tue Mar 31, 2009 7:28 pm

I was diagnosed with two herniated discs in 2005 and confirmed again after a car accident last year. Last night found a new large soft ball size bruise around the spine where the herniated discs are. Is this serious, and what could be causing this?

Bruising is caused by trauma - broken blood vessels (veins). If the area is swollen the size of a soft ball, then it will need to be evaluated by a physician as this could be an abscess. The disc should not cause bruising or swelling that superficial - discs are deep in the back and when bulging cause pain and sometimes numbness, tingling or weakness in the leg but not bruising the size of a soft ball.
Take care.
