Is a DNC after miscarriage necessary?

I am a 26 year old female with a regular menstrsal cycle. My expected period was on October 4th. On November 8th i still did not receive my period and took a home pregnancy test that turned out negative. I started experiencing headaches, lower back ache, and period cramping. My breasts are heavier but not sore or tender and I don't "feel" pregnant (I have a 2 year old and have experienced pregnancy before) . On November 12 (now 8 days after period) I took another pregnancy test where the result was negative. I went to the doctor who ordered a blood test and an ultrasound. I am waiting for the blood test results still, but he told me that if it comes back negative I most likely had a miscarriage in which case he would send me for a DNC. I can't even stomach the thought of getting this done. Is it possible to still be pregnant even if the blood test result comes back negative? also, is a DNC necessary if i did have a miscarriage or can i let things happen naturally?

Hello,
I can't say how this diagnosis came about with all pregnancy tests being negative. It seems unlikely a D&C would be needed and in most cases of early miscarriage the body takes care of it without intervention. Only when it is clear there was not complete evacuation of the contents of the uterus or infection or bleeding are concerns is it needed. You will need to discuss the treatment plan with your doctor or seek a second opinion.
