Unexplained blood in baby's mouth after prolonged puking

Postby G'smommy » Tue Nov 11, 2008 6:40 pm

My 15 month old has had a stomach virus with vomiting lasting throughout several days. Now I am seeing blood in her mouth for apparently no reason. There doesn't seem to be any puking and no apparent injury to her mouth. Please help.

Hello,
It is possible that there were some small capillaries that were traumatized from the vomiting. This can happen in the esophagus and it will heal. Unless there is a lot of blood I wouldn't worry too much. Giver her soft foods while she heals. Stomach acid is also very strong and that comes up with the stomach contents sometimes.

Best wishes.
