5 months constipated

hi there
i have a 5 months baby boy. i started giving him baby food a week ago. started with pears and applesauce. he didn't poop for five days but he is wetting his diapers on a regular basis. don't know what to do and for how long can i wait for this constipation. he is sleeping well and doesn't have any other trouble thank god, he plays and coos all the time. should i contact his pediatrician or just wait for a couple of days.

any information will be appreciated

Hi there -

While there is no particular reason for concern in general with constipation of five days' duration, in infants there is always a greater chance of obstruction. While this would normally be accompanied by other signs of discomfor and distress, I feel it would be prudent to give the pediatrician a call and see what he thinks. It could be nothing, but it's hard to know with a little one who can't, as yet, tell you much.

Ask. It couldn't hurt.
