14 months girl - strach granules in stool

Postby msn » Tue Nov 18, 2008 1:38 am

Hello,

My 14 month old daughter vomited her meals thrice while eating. She generally does not have problem with eating otherwise. I thought i noticed her stool was slightly more softer and a shade lighter than. so got a stool test done. The stool was pale yellow and acidic. Except for the presence of starch granules all other parameters are normal. What does the presence of starch granules indicate? Hopfully its not an indication of some malfunction of some part of digestive system.

Some light on this will be assuring.

Thanks in advance

Hello,
Since starch is present in many foods, the stool findings would not be of concern. Stools will vary in color and consistency depending on dietary variation. I would not obsess on the appearance or consistency unless there is something very unusual noticed or she becomes constipated to the point she cannot pass stool or has other lasting symptoms such as fever, bleeding, etc.

Best wishes.
