Babies without kneecaps?

Postby staceylynn » Wed Jun 15, 2005 10:37 am

I know this is a little ridiculous  but it could be true so I have to ask:
I heard that babies are born without kneecaps. Is that true?

No, this is not rediculous at all. :)
Babies are normally born with kneecaps. Kneecaps only start to turn bony (ossify) at 3 years of age, before that they are made of cartilage.
There is a condition known as 'Nail Patella Syndrome' where a baby could be born without kneecaps.
Best regards,
