PCOS AND aUTOIMMUNE thyroid antibodies

Postby avalon 1 » Mon Sep 15, 2008 7:44 am

I am a 49 and have had PCOS for over 20 years and also have autoimmune alopecia totalis(over 28years) In the last 2 years I have been suffering from fatigue and general ill health and weight gain I have increased PMS type symtoms which I have always associated with the PCOS problem which are slightly improved by the mini pill Micronor.Lab tests have confirmed high autoantibodies to thyroid and a slightly raised TSH LEVEL 1 year ago but repeated tests have shown a normal TSH level. My GPS have suggested HRT for perimenopause/PCOS although lab test for hormones related to menopause are normal. I have had no hot flushes to date.
Iam concerened that taking HRT willpotentially aggrevate the PCO and or Thyroid/autoimmune problems by introducing more eostrogen if I don't need it.
My Doctors are not prepared to try thyroxine treatment as the TSH is normal but I have told me that I will develop autoimmune thyroid disease in the next year or so.
