My mother had a pituitary tumor removed about a year ago. She previously had undergone radiation to shrink the tumor, as she didn't want to face a second surgery (1st time was several years ago--partially removed through nose). The surgeon commented that the radiation had caused part of the tumor to stick to her optic nerve, and as a result, she has poor peripheral vision. He is fairly confident they removed all the tumor. But ever since the surgery, my mom has had such a poor quality of life. She is only 64. Now on a daily basis, she suffers from the following:
Excessive urination (avoids going places is she's not sure where their bathrooms are)... even at night (poor sleep as a result).
Dry skin
Swelling of hands and feet/ joint
pain in hands and wrist/several fingers have become numb
Feet have begun to hurt (says shoes don't seem to fit right anymore)
Extreme fatigue/lethargy -will fall asleep if sitting too long.
Absent mindedness.
My mom sees an endocronoligist, but
Diabetes inspidus hasn't been mentioned to my knowledge. She takes the following:
Levothyroxine and hydrocortisone, and Avalide 300 for blood pressure.
My mom rarely gives her doctor the full picture, and she doesn't want my dad going in with her to see the doctor (for reasons I'll not discuss).
Is it possible the doctors are missing something? Could it be
Diabetes Insipidus?
What kind of advice should I give her? I live 3 hours away from her with a family of my own, and I can't always go with her to the doctor. But I worry constantly about her. She seems to never feel good.
