Hello,

I've had varicocelectomy 17 days ago.
I searched for information about recovery period of varicocelectomy on the Internet they generally emphasize that recovery period is around 10 days but I still have the following symptoms;

- Pain on my lower abdomen while getting erect and loosing the erection.
- Unbearable pain on my lower abdomen right after ejaculation and then swelling occurs after I start having pain. Pain comes really fast but goes really slow.
- Swelling occurs during the day. Especially in warm environments or if I sit for a long time. It goes away when I walk.

5 days after surgery I masturbated, because I was getting erect and consequently having pain frequently. Ofcourse I did it after consulting my surgeon.
First time it hurt but it went away in few minutes. Few days after I masturbated again, this time it hurt less. I thought that I was getting better. However last time I masturbated it hurt so much so that I had to stay still on the bed for 15 minutes till the pain goes away and my testicles were swollen for the rest of the day and I still had so much discomfort which led me to take Novalgin.

Lately I've read diverse information on recovery period on many sites it states one can continue normal daily activity nearly in 10 days (except excessive activities like lifting heavy stuff ) and another one states its better to take a break (for sexual activities) for 3 weeks!

I don't know if I damaged anything after surgery by masturbating 5 days after the surgery. I would appreciate if you can shed some light on my case.

Thanks in advance!

Hi itdoeshurt,
Recovery time for this procedure generally speaking is 10 days to two weeks with no heavy lifting. I certainly hope that you had a re-evaluation by your physician and your remaining recovery was uneventful.
Sincerely,
