POST WISDOM TEETH EXTRACTION-- LOST VOICE????

Postby autumngrace8 » Sun Mar 02, 2008 10:11 pm

4 days ago I had my wisdom teeth extracted. I have had the usual side effects for impacted teeth... numbness of tongue and cheeks, earache, tight jaw muscles. But, I have one symptom that doesn't seem right to me. I have lost my voice completely! Is this something that is common? How did this happen? When can I expect to speak again. I am a teacher and rely on my voice. Thanks.

Hi autumngrace8,
Although it is unusual, laryngeal edema is a possibility. Is there significant edema or swelling located around the eyes, face or lips? This is an infrequent but serious event. I would certainly hope that you have contacted your physician for a follow up evaluation. Best wishes.
Sincerely,
