There is a good chance your husband's recovery will be much faster but the type of work he does will have a bearing on this. Obviously strenuous work will require a longer healing time than a sedentary job. They are probably allowing for the worst case scenario so you won't plan on him returning sooner than he is ready, only to be disappointed if he is not up to it.
If you plan on six weeks, you may be pleasantly surprised if it doesn't take so long but the doctor will have to release him to return to work and this will depend a lot on his individual rate of healing. People vary considerably so it is impossible to say in advance exactly when he will be ready.
