low cell counts....

Postby elephant » Thu Oct 21, 2004 5:20 am

hi there, i just wanted to know the other options that doctors would
possibly consider in this situation as alternative diagnosis's. i have a
very low white cell count and mildly low platelets and red cells. after
having a bone marrow biopsy and it coming back normal and not showing
anything like leukaemia, what other things could cause the low cell

i understand that i will discuss this concern of mine or wondering with
my doctors but i just wanted to find out and have a better
understanding of what could be possibilities. thanks, alice

Hi alice,
Many diseases can cause low cell counts. Some causes of myelosuppression are: cancer, allergic disorders, chemo drugs and radiation, some types of infections, Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), autoimmune disease, deficiencies in vitamin B12 and folic acid, insecticides and toxins, and some hereditary diseases. I hope this helps.
