Giant hemangioma

Postby bozygirl » Mon Nov 10, 2008 8:03 pm

I was diagnose with a 14cm hemagioma on my right lobe. surgeon said if it's not bothering me, don't bother it. I'm 48 and have just been diagnosed with gerd. Is this the usual protocol. I thought the mere size of it would be enough to take some proactive treatment.

Hello,

Surgeons agree that a symptomatic large haemangioma should be treated. But controversy exists among them in how to manage asymptomatic large (>10 cm) hepatic haemangioma.

Some surgeons consider the potential risk of complications like spontaneous rupture, or intratumoral haemorrhage mandates immediate interference.

Others advocate careful monitoring only, based on the fact that there are only few case reports for complications from large asymptomatic haemangioma.

So, they keep individuals with large asymptomatic haemangioma under close follow up and consider therapy only when they have symptoms.

Surgical resection and enucleation are the most preferred treatments.

I would advise you to follow up with your doctor.
Hope you find this information useful.

Best regards.
