Therapeutic actions
Increases the release of acetylcholine in the myenteric plexus; thus,
improves GI motility with little to no dopaminergic action.
Indications
Symptomatic treatment of nocturnal heartburn due to
gastroesophageal
reflux disease
Contraindications/cautions
Allergy to cisapride, gallbladder disease, GI hemorrhage, GI
obstruction,
pregnancy, lactation, prolonged Q-T interval.
Adverse effects
- CNS: Headache, fatigue, somnolence
- GI: Abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting,
borborygamus, bloating
- CV: Serious cardiac arrhythmiaswhen used in combination drug regimens
- Respiratory: Rhinitis, sinusitis, cough-ing, upper respiratory
infections
