hey, for the past three years or so i have been burping constantly all through the day, every day. an assortment of doctors have told me that i'm just swallowing air, or told me that there's nothing wrong with me. recently i've considered the possibility of acid reflux disease, but i've been taking nexium samples my doctor gave me, and they don't seem to be having any effect. also, since november i've had a cough that may or may not be related. i'm not coughing uncontrollably, but i often feel like i need to cough, or like there's something i need to get out. the coughs are dry though. interested to see what people have to say. also i would really like to stop burping, because it is really irritating and occasionally impairs my breathing. thanks much in advance.

dear doug,
have you ever been tested for gastric motility disorders? One disease, called gastroparesis, can cause lots of burping. It usually has other symptoms such as extreme fullness, nausea, etc. Maybe testing for motility disorders is something you want to check out or at least see a gastroenterologist,
