I am male, 19, I hardly eat any fruit or vegetables, but take vitamin supplements. I have been having diarrhea about 5-10 times a day for the past week. I don't usually suffer from it, and have never had diarrhea for longer than a day before. There is a lot of mucous in it and it smells very strong. I am getting itching around my anus and believe I have a haemorrhoid. I haven't had the chance to go to the doctors yet as I am busy with work and college. I am beginning to get concerned because most of the things I read relating to this are to do with colon cancer.

Hi alskdjfhg,
Diarrhea may be caused by numerous reasons, i.e., certain gastrointestinal disturbances, infection, (viral, bacterial), Irritable bowel syndrome, etc. etc. Make an appointment with your primary care provider for an evaluation. Don't assume the worst possible scenerio before other causative factors are ruled out.
Best wishes.
Sincerely,
Theresa Jones, RN
