Question: Depo Provera and pregnancy

I'm 27 years old,
female and have been on depo for aprox. 9 months. I am not taking any other medications. Latley I have been experiancing severe mood swings and haven't been my self. One minute I'm dancing around the room and couldn't be happier, the next I'm either crying or very angry. (normaly I don't cry and I am usually pretty laid back) I've also been getting dizzy (mostly when I stand up or walk up the stairs) I have trouble sleeping and or sleeping too much. I'm hungry all the time however, when I do eat I feel nauseated. I've done some research and have found that these symptoms are both common with the ingection and also with pregnancy. How do I tell if these are pregnancy symptoms or if its because of the depo ingection?

Hi Branlynn,
The symptoms you are experiencing on the Depo Birth control is not unusal and are side effects of the injection. Some woman have no problems or side effects of the birth control and some experience the opposite effect. There are several alternative birth control concraceptives that might be more suitable for you, and I strongly suggest you speak with your physcian in getting the birth control that works for you.
If you are thinking that you may be pregnant do not rely on a home Pregnancy test results as those test are capable of giving false positive results. A blood test needs to be done to get a more accurate result.
Check with your physcian immediatley if you continue to have light headedness, Shortness of breath, as these are common side effects of the shot, but should not be ruled out as a seperate underlying condition non related to the Depo shot.
Good Luck
