I am 54 years old and had a hysterectomy 8 years ago. (I still have my overies). I had a test about 6 months ago and was not experiencing menapause even though I was experiencing some 'flushing'.
I have had an underactive thryod (for 28 years now) & Type 2 diabetis. In 2006 I had Hep.
A - form contaminated oysters and this left me with lots of aches and pains in the joints. (They only came after this illness)
I work 3 part time jobs , am actively involved with my 10 grandchildren, work in the community and lead a very active life, although I am overweight. I do have low blood pressure (nothing to worry about I'm told)
lately I have been feeling exhausted, have dryness of the virgina, Headaches, stomach cramps, heart pulpitations, 'air' headedness, and trouble scrambling my thoughts, with a tendency to forget 'words' in a conversation. I do have flushes -(feelings of being very hot in the face, head and neck.
Could I now be experiencing Menapause and what are some methods of helping in these early days.
Many thanks
sandra

Hello,
Although these symptoms are similar to menopause, it is advisable to check the level of thyroid-stimulating hormone, as Hypothyroidism may result in similar symptoms. It should be diagnosed and corrected properly.
When menopause occurs, FSH levels increase and estradiol levels decrease, some doctors may recommend these tests to confirm menopause for women in the perimenopausal period, (who show some menopausal symptoms but still ovulate with irregular cycles).
There are many medications and certain recommendations advised by the specialized doctor according to your personal and family medical history to control menopausal symptoms and complications.
For example, your doctor may prescribe you either a local measure (vaginal lubricants) or HRT in the form of low dose estrogen to control the vaginal dryness and flush. Certain daily habits like regular excercise and healthy food are helpful too.
Follow up within your doctor is essential.
Best regards.
