Question: Spotting, Am I Pregnant?

peachee50 - Thu Feb 08, 2007 10:25 am

I am a 25 year old woman. I am wondering if I could be pregnant. I am currnetly on the pill Estrostep. Back in December I missed a couple of my pills but I took them the following day. If I am pregnant the date of conception would have been December 28. My most fertile dates was December 25-31. I had intercourse December 26-Jan 3, everyday. My last regular period was on December 8th. On Jan 4-5 I spotted for those 2 days. Then I spotted again on Feb. 1. I was still taking my pills though! I stopped taking my pills 4 days ago. I took a First Response and Simplicity Pregnancy test, both came back negative. I am overly sensative to smells, tired all the time, nauseated, have constant Headache, and lower Back pain. I know I should see a doctor, but I am not in the environment to do so. I would like to take a blood Pregnancy test but my current situation doesn't allow me to. I am a government contractor stationed overseas in Iraq. Please provide as much assistance as possible. Providing my situation. Thank you so much in advance.

Hello,

A Pregnancy test is a test that examine for a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) that is positive when women are pregnant. The test can be done using blood or urine sample.
However, a blood test scan tell if the woman is pregnant or not few days (6-8 days) from ovulation and fertilization. The test can gives a clear answer for pregnancy, as well as an idea about the pregnancy duration in weeks by a quantitative analysis.

Testing for urine on the other hand, is better done one week after a missed period. One negative result (especially soon after a missed period) is not enough to exclude pregnancy and the test should be repeated there after or blood test is done. Some Antibiotics and contraceptive pills interfere with the test and should be avoided.

The symptoms you have described although do occur in pregnancy, they are not specific and may occur due to several other causes even in stressed female. In addition too, spotting regularly for two days on monthly basis is less commonly seen in pregnant women, but may be caused by menstrual irregularities caused by the contraception pills.

You may either do a blood test or repeat your urine test as mentioned before.

Hope this information is useful.
