Question: lactating

 Amygirl - Thu Aug 26, 2004 1:08 am

is it possible for a girl to lactate if shes not pregnant? do you have to get horrmone shots?

User avatar Yes it is possible to lactate without being pregnant. The term for it is galactorrhea which is the secretion of breast milk in men, or in women who are not breastfeeding an infant.

Galactorrhea may occur normally as during sexual intercourse in some women and may also be caused by several other causes including tumors of the brain that secrete excessive prolactin and some medications may lead to galactorrhea as well.

If this is a continuous problem that does not seem to stop by itself, it might be a good idea to have it checked out.

Best regards,
